MercyMed of Columbus

Who We Are

MercyMed of Columbus exists to proclaim Jesus Christ as Lord and demonstrate His love by providing affordable, quality healthcare for the physical, spiritual, and emotional needs of the underserved.

What We Do

MercyMed of Columbus is a ministry for Jesus Christ with a healthcare expression. Our mission statement helps define and guide our ministry:

MercyMed of Columbus exists to proclaim Jesus Christ as Lord and demonstrate His love by providing affordable quality primary healthcare for the physical, spiritual, and emotional needs of the underserved of our community.

We carry out our mission by serving the underserved across two locations every day. MercyMed was founded in response to high rates of poverty and lack of access to healthcare in our community. The combination of many residents in our area living at or below the poverty level coupled with the high cost of healthcare means that the number of people who need us grows every day. More than 8,000 patients are on our roster. They have responded in large numbers to the need for an affordable option for a quality physician, and now call MercyMed of Columbus their medical home. The following services are currently available to our patients:

  • Family and Internal Medicine
  • Pediatric Care
  • Prescription Assistance Program
  • Coumadin Clinic
  • Vision (Partnership with Lighthouse Foundation)
  • Health Education & Disease Management Classes
  • Christ-Centered Individual, Marriage, and Family Counseling
  • Bipolar Support Group Ministry
  • Ultrasound Imaging with HealthScan Imaging
  • Orthopedic Clinic
  • Dermatology Clinic
  • Cardiology Clinic
  • Dentistry¬†
  • GYN Care (coming in June 2017!)

MercyMed is very much a ministry to the working poor. In fact, the majority of our patients come from a home led by a full time worker. Our patient population is made up of a group that makes too much money to qualify for Medicaid, but not enough to afford health insurance (60%), a group that is under-insured with Medicaid or Medicare (30%) and a small subset with private insurance (10%).

We charge our uninsured patients based on their ability to pay. Based on household income, our patients pay anywhere from $30 - $60 to be seen by their provider. We believe this exchange works well because it establishes a professional relationship with patients.

We employ two full time physicians, two Physician Assistants, on Nurse Practitioner, three part-time counselors, and supporting nurses and CMAs who are 100% dedicated to serving our patients. Our organization works hard to contribute to the healthcare safety net in this community. We offer a vital service to thousands who have no other healthcare option.

We are honored that so many trust us with their healthcare. More than that, we are thankful that God provides us with so many opportunities to share the gospel message of Jesus through building relationships with our patients.
